Tesla Model S sets Nürburgring record for a production electric car

For the last few years, the Nürburgring has become a battlefield for Tesla and Porsche. The confrontation between the manufacturers’ electric cars heated up after 2019. That year, the Porsche Taycan Turbo set the record for production electric cars, completing a lap in 7 minutes and 42 seconds. Two years later, in September 2021, it was surpassed by the Tesla Model S Plaid, clocking 7 minutes 35.579 seconds.

In August 2022, the title of champion again went to the Porsche Taycan. The electric sedan lapsed in 7 minutes 33 seconds. For the record-breaking run, the production Taycan Turbo S with a very specific “performance kit” was used. This allowed the German electric car to finish two seconds faster than Tesla.

It was possible to return the champion title of the Model S thanks to the package “Track Mode”. Moreover, at the finish line the American electric sedan was 8 seconds faster than Taycan. The new track record is 7 minutes 25 seconds.
